Supporting Civil Engineering Excellence in South Africa: Our Strategic Collaboration with ICE-SA

How Joshi Consultancy Services helped ICE-SA launch a scalable, SCORM-compliant Moodle LMS that strengthens professional development and international engineering collaboration.

ICE-SA Online Learning Platform by Joshi Consultancy Services

Background: A Legacy of Collaboration

The Institution of Civil Engineers South Africa (ICE-SA) is a joint division of the UK-based Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and the South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE). Established in 2007, ICE-SA continues a rich tradition of cross-border cooperation—fostering civil engineering expertise, policy input, and global partnerships.

Project Objectives

ICE-SA sought a modern learning management system to support:

  • Flexible, self-paced online delivery of technical courses
  • SCORM-compliant content for consistency and tracking
  • Scalable platform maintenance for long-term reliability

Joshi Consultancy Services was chosen to bring this vision to life—architecting both the initial deployment and ongoing strategy for ICE-SA’s digital learning platform.

Platform Delivery: Moodle LMS with SCORM Integration

Why Moodle?

Moodle’s open-source framework gave ICE-SA flexibility, scalability, and control. It aligns well with nonprofit and professional associations looking to avoid vendor lock-in while retaining robust learning capabilities.

SCORM-Compliant Course Design

All ICE-SA courses are delivered in SCORM format—enabling modular reusability, consistent structure, and detailed learner tracking across devices. This choice ensures content portability and international compatibility.

Responsive User Interface

The front-end is optimized for accessibility across desktops, tablets, and mobile—crucial for professionals who need flexible access around jobsite schedules or geographic constraints.

Administrative Controls

We customized Moodle’s backend to simplify course creation, user management, and reporting. ICE-SA’s staff now has full control over course content, certification workflows, and real-time analytics.

Ongoing Strategic Support

Our partnership with ICE-SA extends beyond implementation. We continue to iterate collaboratively through:

Security & Performance Monitoring

Regular updates, compatibility reviews, and optimization checks ensure the platform performs reliably across environments and browsers.

Content Workflow Optimization

We’ve simplified SCORM packaging and deployment processes—empowering ICE-SA’s team to manage new content independently.

UX Enhancements

From menu refinements to accessibility improvements, we’ve implemented member-driven feedback to improve user experience for learners and administrators alike.

Onboarding & Knowledge Transfer

Support materials, documentation, and tailored walk-throughs ensure ICE-SA’s internal capacity continues to grow alongside platform needs.

Amplifying ICE-SA’s Strategic Mission

With this platform, ICE-SA now digitally delivers:

  • International lectures and thought leadership
  • Professional development aligned to ICE and SAICE standards
  • Global engagement across developing regions and emerging infrastructure sectors

The result is a future-ready training ecosystem—aligned with ICE-SA’s commitment to excellence, representation, and global impact.

Joshi Consultancy Services is proud to support ICE-SA’s digital transformation—partnering for long-term stability, strategic evolution, and professional growth in the global civil engineering community.
